Pepper Spray Permits Required

While the use of pepper spray has become legal in Trinidad and Tobago, there is a process to obtain this defensive weapon.

This according to Inspector of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, Michelle Lewis. She reiterated that citizens must have a permit to carry and use pepper spray.

Inspector Lewis also noted that while the minimum age to apply for pepper spray is 18 years old, someone as young as 16 can carry the non-lethal weapon.

Inspector Lewis is advising that the permit be kept in one’s possession at all times, and said a report must be made to the police within 24 hours if the permit is lost.
