Two officers attached to the Coastal Support Unit of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service are being treated at hospital for injuries sustained during an incident earlier this morning while at sea.
According to the TTPS, at around 10:30am on Thursday, Police Constables Tirbanie and Gonzales were aboard Marine Vehicle CP-002 in the Gulf of Paria after refueling the vessel.
As the officers were nearing Peake’s, an explosion was allegedly heard from the stern of the vessel which threw both occupants into the sea. The officers were assisted by the Coast Guard and taken to Staubles Bay and then later to the St. James hospital for treatment.
PC Tirbanie is reported to have received burn injuries to his face, both arms, and back, while PC Gonzales received an injury to his left leg.
Investigations are ongoing.
