Minister of National Security, Fitzgerald Hinds, has denied knowledge of an alleged spy unit within the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service.
A report in a daily newspapers claims the Research and Analytical Unit reports only to the TTPS Special Branch and falls under the remit of the Minister of National Security. The newspaper report also alleges the Unit, through the TTPS, has access to equipment for interception of communication.
The National Security Minister explained the Interception of Communications Act allows for interception of communications for the purpose of attacking, solving, and preventing crime.
