Haitian-American Grammy-nominated saxophonist, Godwin Louis, is set to release his second album, Psalms and Proverbs, later this month.
Born into a musical family, Louis was raised in Bridgeport, Connecticut and Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
Louis draws on religious musical traditions around the world, including his Haitian roots; Haiti being where European, African and Native traditions converged to create the roots of modern jazz.
The disc includes gospel and liturgical music from West African and Cuban sources, influences from the 16th-century French composer, Claude Goudimel, and compositions he wrote in collaboration with his late father, the Reverend Marcel Louis.
Louis got his start on the saxophone at the age of nine and is now a 2024 Grammy nominee.
Psalms and Proverbs will be released by Blue Moon Music on August 23.
