Tobago Murder Toll Increases To 18

Tobago’s murder toll has risen to 18 for 2024. The island’s 18th murder victim Ezra Sylvester was shot and killed on Saturday. This is the second hit on his life. Just over one week ago, Sylvester of Moriah was shot in the neck in Scarborough. He was treated and discharged.

However, on Saturday, Sylvester was again the target of gunmen, while seated under a tent at Gardenside Scarborough.

Police said five gunmen exited a vehicle and fired several shots at him. The 41 year old man ran and was pursued by the men. He succumbed to his injuries at the Scarborough General Hospital. Two other people were injured in the incident, while the vehicle allegedly used was recovered in Scarborough.

In a separate incident, Lawrence Bacchus of Golden Lane was murdered on Friday. Bacchus reportedly had an altercation with a man who dealt him several blows about the body with a cutlass. Police were called to the scene where Bacchus was found with a wound to the head. He was transported to hospital, but later succumbed to his injuries. A suspect was arrested and is assisting police in their enquiries.
