Relative Kills Mother And Baby In Barrackpore

A tragic end to a Barrackpore mother and her toddler.

Tara Ramsaroop and her one year old daughter, Jada, were chopped to death at a house off Rochard Road, Barrackpore some time before noon on Tuesday.

Relatives painted a story of abuse and death threats by the suspect. They said there was also concern that the woman’s eight year old son was in danger, which prompted a lock down at his Primary School.

TTT News understands that the suspect, said to be a close male relative, is in police custody.

This latest gruesome incident follows the attempted murder of a one year old baby girl in Marabella last Wednesday. Two relatives of that child appeared in court today charged with attempted murder. The little girl is said to be in stable condition at hospital.

Meanwhile, Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister with responsibility for Gender and Child Affairs, Ayanna Webster-Roy, is strongly condemning the recent barbaric act of violence that resulted in the death of Tara Ramsaroop and her fourteen-month-old daughter.

Minister Webster-Roy, via a statement, says she is committed to working with all stakeholders to ensure the care and well-being of the victim’s other child, who was secured by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, along with providing support to any affected family members.

Minister Webster-Roy is urging individuals, families, and members of the general public to report acts of domestic violence or any form of child abuse to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (999), the Children’s Authority Hotline (996), Childline at 800-4321, or the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 800-SAVE.
