Over 180,000 cruise ship passengers landed on T&T’s shores during the 2023/2024 Cruise Ship Season.
According to Chairman of Tourism Trinidad Limited, Cliff Hamilton, big expectations and changes can be expected during the 2024/2025 season including the arrival to our shores for the very first time of the Oceana Cruises MS Nautica, which he said was a big win for Destination Trinidad.
He added that a total of 20 cruise ships from 11 different cruise lines will be welcomed to our shores. Six inaugural calls are expected from leading cruise brands such as Carnival and Seven Seas Cruises and repeat calls from Princess Cruises and Royal Caribbean.
“Our team has worked tirelessly, including attending major international trade shows, showcasing our unique tourism product, and ensuring that the destination meets with the high standards expected by our cruise visitors.”
Mr. Hamilton said one of TTL’s priorities is enhancing and exceeding customer expectations. As such, several initiatives have been put in place to ensure all visitors’ experiences are of high quality.
“Trinidad is the only Caribbean destination to offer dedicated Tourism Ambassadors to assist cruise passengers when they are exploring Port of Spain and environment. These Ambassadors provide a warm, personalised welcome, allowing visitors to experience Trinidad’s genuine hospitality.”
Chief Executive Officer of the Port Authority of Trinidad and Tobago, Marcia Charles Elbourne, declared that Destination Trinidad is thriving and a forerunner in Caribbean cruise shipping.
With the Port Authority responsible for the Ports of Port of Spain, Scarborough, and Charlotteville, Ms. Elbourne said they are dedicated to their remit.
“The Port has been steadfast in maintaining its ISPS certifications to ensure the safety of vessels, passengers, and crew to our island. On the heels of a successful 2023-2024 Cruise Ship Season, the Authority generated revenue in excess of $5 million. As such, we remain committed to being an active participant in the development of Trinidad’s cruise ship sector.”
Ms. Elbourne also revealed that $26 million was spent in achieving a dedicated cruise berth. She explained that the Cabo Star and all other domestic cargo operations were moved to the Government Shipping Service facility.
“So that means to say, this is the first time that we can tell all cruise vessels, come to Port of Spain whenever you like. The berth is all yours.”
The next cruise ship, the MS Seven Sea Marina, will berth on November 23rd. The season will end in April 2025.
