The MIC Institute of Technology marked its Golden Anniversary in fine style by giving thanks to all the members of staff, organisations, and other stakeholders who contributed to its long, successful journey.
Chairman of MIC-IT, Professor Emeritus Clement Imbert, gave a brief history of the institution’s beginnings in 1974, due to the work and foresight of Professor Emeritus Kenneth Julien, as a service provider for organisations in the manufacturing industry.
From 1984 to 1994, under former Prime Minister Patrick Manning, Professor Julien, and training from United Nations experts, MIC transformed its operations to include the provision of technical vocational training. Since then, MIC has become the premier institution for TVET courses and the first Technical Vocational institution to be accredited by the Accreditation Council of Trinidad and Tobago.
Minister in the Ministry of Education, Lisa Morris-Julian, heaped praises on the work that MIC has done for the development of TVET in Trinidad and Tobago.
“MIC has stood strong for 50 years. A mighty tree deeply rooted in the soil of progress, its branches reaching ever higher to shape futures and transform lives. A symbol of resilience and growth, it has weathered challenges, nurtured talent, and provided shade for countless dreams to flourish. Fifty years is not just a milestone. It’s a testimony to hard work, perseverance. It is the unwavering commitment to the prosperity of our people.”
During the ceremony, members of staff who contributed 15 to 33 years to the advancement of the organisation, and retirees, were specially honoured.
