The spirit of Christmas came alive in Diego Martin West on Wednesday as the constituency office hosted a special luncheon for senior citizens.
The gathering brought together elders from the community for a day of celebration, camaraderie, and holiday cheer.
The senior citizens also got to shake hands with a man in red, not Santa Claus, but their Member of Parliament, Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley.
Lady Vice Chair of the Diego Martin West Constituency Office, Yokymma Bethelmy, explained why the executive decided to honour the senior citizens with a Christmas Luncheon.
“We’ve been doing a lot for the young people but now we have to, we have to figure out what can we do for our senior citizens and our more experienced members of the community who have been basically the giants that we have been, I mean we’ve been standing on your shoulders for all these years and if it was not for your contributions both to the party, the community, some of you nationally and regionally, we will not be here today.”
Member of Parliament for Diego Martin West, Dr. Keith Rowley, was elated to meet and greet the seniors of the constituency.
“I am so pleased to see that the staff has been able to organise this event, that you can come out and have together a Christmas meal, and that the memories of today will stay with you throughout the coming year and on to next Christmas, and very many more.”
Dr. Rowley also used the opportunity to thank them for their support over the years.
“Without you, I would not have been on this stage talking to you now, or doing the job that I’m doing. From day one, some of the faces I’ve seen here in the hall today, from the very first day I came into Diego Martin West, into the political arena, you embraced me, and you have been there with me, and you don’t know how grateful I am. On behalf of my family, my team, the office, and the community, all I can say to you is thanks.”
The senior citizens were also treated to some hampers and live entertainment.
