For two days, Adam Smith Square will be transformed into a hub for Christmas shoppers.
The Ministry of Sport and Community Development’s Export Centres Company Limited (ECCL) opened its Christmas Market on Friday.
During the Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony, Permanent Secretary, David Roberts, said the ECCL has been doing very important work, dedicated to the training of artisans and the development of the craft sector here in Trinidad and Tobago.
“And the work that they are doing which has been amplified under the leadership of the Honourable Shamfa Cudjoe-Lewis, has culminated in unique partnership with City and Guilds, which has led to the only certified crafting training in the region.”
He said the work that is being done and initiatives similar to this craft market are very consistent with the Ministry’s objectives and, more importantly, those of Vision 2030, particularly putting the people of Trinidad and Tobago first.
“And we continue as a Ministry and by extension a Government to invest in the people of Trinidad and Tobago and as we create this craft market as an opportunity for our artisans to exhibit their products and make their services available, we encourage you to yes, participate but also spread the good news and encourage others to be a part of what is taking place today.”
According to ECCL’s Acting Business Development Manager, Martha Sookan, this year’s craft market features over 56 artisans.
She encouraged people to stay connected and learn more about becoming part of the market.
“Registering for our craft market is very easy. What we do is we post our flyer on our Instagram and Facebook pages and you register through a link that we put up on the platform.”
The Craft Market was held in Tobago on December 15th and 16th before coming to Trinidad on the 20th and 21st.
