Celebrating Excellence At St. Joseph’s Convent, Port Of Spain

Teachers, staff, parents, guardians, and students of St. Joseph’s Convent, Port of Spain, gathered in the institution’s 180-year-old chapel to celebrate their school’s achievements on Thursday.

Mayor of Port of Spain and a past Sixth Form student of the school, Chinua Alleyne, highlighted SJC’s distinguished alumni who, he said, exemplify the institution’s remarkable legacy.

“Firstly, from our sister school in San Fernando, we have Her Excellency, Christine Carla Kangaloo, ORTT, President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, a product of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Cluny, and she occupies the highest office in the land.”

The Mayor noted that the Speaker of the House, Bridgid Annisette-George, is also a past pupil of the school, as he encouraged the students to aim high.

“You are the future leaders, innovators, and change-makers of our society. And I have no doubt that each and every one of you will contribute something extraordinary to our world.”

Meanwhile, the school’s Principal, Anna Pounder, said SJCPOS has taken a holistic approach to education.

“The awards and accolades we present today are not just symbols of success. They’re reflections of the continuous hard work, perseverance, and collaboration that have defined our school community and which culminated in our seven National Scholarship winners in 2024.”

Awards were presented to the students for their success in academics, service to the school, outstanding performance in sport, the arts, and displaying fine personal qualities.
