Heritage Petroleum says it will conduct its own investigation into the “root cause” of the Rig 110 incident.
Responding to a question during a sitting of the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament on Wednesday, Heritage Petroleum’s Chief Executive Officer, Erik Keskula, noted that their investigations have not yet commenced as the rig is still “unstable and unsafe” to board.
“We have not even been able to access the rig yet in order to determine what the root cause may have been, and that’s because the rig is currently unstable and would be unsafe to board, and so at this time OSH is beginning their investigation. We are working on supplying the documentation that they have required, and we will obviously conduct our own investigation as will, I expect, multiple other entities.”
On December 22nd, 2024, Rig 110, an asset operated by Well Services Petroleum Company Ltd, partially collapsed into the sea. Seventy four of the 75 workers who were on board the rig at the time—aside from one individual, Pete Phillip—were successfully evacuated.
