Author Rea Ramkissoon wants to put a smile on our faces and for those who need it, give that feeling of “being seen and significant”. She’s hoping to do this through her book “Quotes to Pass Along”.
With the thought of putting a smile on someone’s face, making them feel seen and significant, Rea Ramkissoon authored her book “Quotes to Pass Along.”
“Words have power. The rhythm of your words have the power to uplift and build confidence. But it also has the power to humiliate and to make one seem insignificant.”
Just as the title suggests, Author Rea Ramkisson highlighted the importance of supporting others in their time of need. She explained that the book is designed to encourage sharing, allowing readers to ‘pass along’ pages to others.
Radio Personality Haleema Shah shared her experience.
“There was a cashier, he was serving food and everything and I looked at him and he looked sad and I was like that’s the one. So I told my daughter, she’s in the audience Fariah and I said give this to that guy just give it to him, I don’t know how he would respond but give it to him, I think he needs it and she did. She went and she was like, she folded it and was like ‘uhh, here you go.” He was like “okay.” So he held on to it. But when we walked away and we looked back, he took a moment and he opened it and in that moment he looked up at us and he smiled an it was like, he needed that.”
Palliative Care doctor and a friend of Ms Ramkissoon, Dr. Nadya Watson also shared the significance of the positive words, especially in supporting her patients.
“I give it out to patients, caregivers, I use it for my Christmas cards. I put it in every Christmas card especially for patients that I know need to hear certain things. I even put a little quote at the back of one, one patient who was coming to me around Christmas with gout, I put a little quote at the back and said, please have a gout free Christmas.”
With the liberal nature of social media,Dr. Watson advised young people to be mindful of the power of their words as stated by Ms. Ramkissoon. She encouraged them to practice kindness instead of using their words to hurt each other.
Quotes to Pass Along, presented at Rhythm ‘n’ Brews on Sunday, not only highlights the power of words but also the important of practicing kindness, which can have profound impact.
