THA Division Implements Measures To Manage Rise In HFMD Cases

There is an increase in cases of Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease (HFMD) in Tobago’s schools.

This, according to the THA Division of Education, Research, and Technology.

In a release on Wednesday, the Division explained that they are working in close collaboration with their Education District Health Unit and the Division of Health, Wellness, and Social Protection to actively manage the situation and implement measures to mitigate the spread of the virus.

The Division said that based on advice from health officials, HFMD is seasonal, and a rise in cases during this time of year is expected. A document outlining established protocols for managing HFMD has been distributed to schools, and they have been advised to reinforce strict hygiene protocols, including frequent handwashing, proper sanitisation of high-touch surfaces, and heightened monitoring of students for any signs of infection.

Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease is a contagious viral infection common in young children. Symptoms include fever, sores in the mouth, and a rash on the hands and feet. Parents have also been encouraged to remain vigilant.
