Acting Police Commissioner McDonald Jacob says criminals have declared war on the Police Service following the shooting death of a policeman in Diego Martin on Friday.
The Top Cop warned that such action would not be taken lightly.
Commissioner Jacob said 12 officers were executing a search warrant in Richplain Road at around 3pm, when a shootout ensued. Police Constable Clarence Gilkes from the Western Division Task Force was rushed to Hospital but died while undergoing treatment.
Commissioner Jacob said he has spoken to the Minister of National Security and has assured that compensation for the family of the officer will be fast tracked.
And the Police Service Social and Welfare Association is offering a reward of $20,000 for information that can lead to the capture of those responsible for the killing of PC Gilkes. Persons with information can contact the Association’s office at 235-5260.
