The Minister of Tourism, Culture and the Arts, Senator Randall Mitchell, welcomes the appointment of Ainsley King to the Board of Commissioners of the National Carnival Commission.
Mr King’s appointment to the Board comes as a result of the vacancy that arose following the untimely passing of Mr. Lutalo Masimba. Mr. Masimba, in his capacity of then President of Trinbago Unified Calypsonians’ Organisation (TUCO), was the organisation’s representative on the NCC Board of Commissioners.
The General Council of TUCO, by letter dated July 20, 2021, gave notification of the appointment of Mr King, formerly the Vice President of TUCO, as the new President of that organisation. The General Council further went on to recommended Mr. King as the TUCO representative on the Board of the National Carnival Commission.
According to the NCC Act of 1991, the Board of Commissioners must include one nominee from the organisation representing Calypsonians. Mr King has been a longstanding member of TUCO since 2005, and has been involved in the calypso art form for over 22 years as a finalist in the Young Kings, Soca Monarch and Tobago Road March competitions. Mr King is also the Vice President of the Copyright Organisation of Trinidad & Tobago (COTT).
Also appointed to the NCC Board is Ms. Vishma Ramcharita. Ms. Ramcharita is an experienced artiste and entertainment manager, Director of NOW Entertainment and a successful radio and television producer.
Minister Mitchell expressed his confidence in Mr. King’s and Ms. Ramcharita’s abilities to strengthen the NCC’s leadership and management as the organisation pursues its goals and objectives, particularly having regard to the challenges arising out of the COVID-19 pandemic.
