Amendments To Demerit Points System

An updated Demerit Points System, which has removed the number of points for several minor traffic violations, will take effect on Tuesday March 1st.

The Ministry of Works and Transport says since the introduction of the system in May 2020, it undertook a review of the system where the number of points for traffic violations has been altered.

Several minor violations including a vehicle without tail lights, park lights, ID lights, and use of a vehicle with no windshield wiper, which previously attracted 2 to 3 demerit points, have been changed to zero. There was also a reduction from 9 to 6 demerit points for failing to produce a vehicle for inspection, while 3 points was added for drivers who park in a public stand appointed for taxis.

The public is however advised that fixed penalties payable for the traffic violations remain unchanged.
