The Cabinet has appointed Arthur Barrington as the Permanent Director of the Strategic Services Agency (SSA).
Prime Minister Stuart Young made the announcement on Thursday.
Mr. Barrington, a former Head of the Special Branch and retired Assistant Commissioner of Police, will assume the role on April 1st, following the end of Ambassador Philip Spencer’s tenure. Mr. Spencer has been serving as Acting Director since March last year.
Prime Minister Young highlighted Mr. Barrington’s extensive experience in policing and intelligence operations. He said his leadership will be instrumental in strengthening the Agency’s mandate.
“Of course, this immediately would provide a level of stability that is needed going forward after what has taken place at the SSA. Mr. Barrington has a wealth of experience not only in the policing side but as the former Head of Special Branch and intelligence, understands operations, so I believe, and the Cabinet believes, he will be a very appropriate Director of the SSA going forward.”
