Attorneys Within The Region Urged To Join The International Criminal Court

A call for more Attorneys to join the International Criminal Court, ICC List of Counsel, particularly within the Caribbean and Latin American territory.

On Thursday, Attorneys from within Trinidad and Tobago were given the opportunity to hear more about the ICC and have their questions answered. Attorney General Reginald Armour encouraged all young Attorneys to take the opportunity to be a part of advancing causes with worldwide reach.

Trinidad and Tobago has had a long history with the international court with former President Arthur N.R Robinson often referred to as the ‘grandfather’ of the ICC. Chief Justice Ivor Archie also highlighted three other judges who have sat as judges including former President Anthony Carmona, Geoffrey Henderson, and more recently, Althea Violet Alexis-Windsor.

Seated in the Hague, Netherlands, the International Criminal Court was established as a court of last resort to prosecute heinous offences in cases where national courts fail to act in matters such as genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity.
