The penultimate match of the Under-19 World Cup unfolded at Coolidge Antigua today.
The third-place playoff between Australia and surprise package Afghanistan was keenly contested as expected, with the Aussies earning the Bronze medal in this year’s edition of the tournament.
The Afghans batted first amassing 201 all out in 49.2 overs. In response, the Aussies were on well on target for victory. But history has proven you cannot keep the Afghans out of sight. They took eight of the Australian wickets in their chase which proved their worth for the entire tournament. The Aussies eventually finished their painstaking run chase on 202 for 8 in 49.1 overs giving them victory by a slim two wickets.
India take on England in the Grand Final on Saturday, also taking place in Antigua.
