BAFA Sports Launches Midnight Marathon

We need to get moving—movement is life and helps to defeat Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) and other illnesses.

That’s the belief of By Athletes, For Athletes (BAFA) Sports Organisation—a belief that pushed them to launch their upcoming Midnight Marathon with a race incorporating youngsters as well as adults.

Public Relations Officer, Verne Extavour, said the marathon will officially take place in May, following more races which are meant to encourage greater physical activity and healthier lifestyles.

Preparation for the race is key to benefiting the athlete and helping them win. But not only professional runners are invited, the public can participate too.

“Saturday we had a symbolic launch of the new Trinidad and Tobago Marathon, which will be a midnight marathon. As we continue to push for our goals to keep people moving, because based on the UN Goals and WHO, a lot more people are suffering from NCDs because of a lack of movement. We wanted to make sure that we had a launch for our marathon that was a moving event. So, we had the 1K for the kids and the 5K, that really symbolises the start of this marathon series, that we’re going to introduce a midnight marathon to Trinidad and Tobago come May this year.”

The marathon is also part of a broader initiative by BAFA Sports to use running events as a platform for fitness and community impact. It invites participants from all walks of life to get involved.

“This is also part of our goal to run 1 million miles for charity to raise $1 million, and as we encourage more people to run more miles and keep moving, this is our million-mile challenge that we’ve been working on for some time, but we believe this will also add to that. So, you can come in and race with us, run with us, and add to this million-mile goal so that we can give $1 million to charities across Trinidad and Tobago.”
