Another batting master class from captain Hayley Matthews saw the Barbados Royals women overcome Trinbago Knight Riders women, in the second match of the 2024 Massy Women’s Caribbean Premier League, at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy.
Matthews, struck twelve boundaries to finish unbeaten on 67 off 56 balls to see her side complete a comfortable seven wicket victory with 17 balls to spare. Earlier, a procession of wickets fell for the Knight Riders in the powerplay. But a 51 run stand between Shika Panda and Zaida James gave the Knight Riders hope of a decent total. However, when they both fell, it all went down hill for the local franchise, eventually totalling 113/9 from their 20 overs.
Shika Pandey top scored with 30.
The Barbados Royals obliterated the Knight Riders from the onset getting to 75 for 2 in the 11th over. Mathews followed her 61 not out on Wednesday night with another match winning performance to lead her team to victory, winning their second consecutive game by 7 wickets.
