The Ministry of National Security is warning the public to be on the alert for tablets laced with ecstasy and other synthetic drugs.
In a media release, the Ministry said the results of tests conducted by the Trinidad and Tobago Forensic Science Centre (TTFSC) reveal that recent seizures of different tablets contained MDMA (better known as ecstasy), as well as other synthetic drugs.
As Trinidad and Tobago prepares for the coming days and weekends with many parties and other events, such as the inaugural Carnival celebration in Tobago, the Ministry is alerting the public to the availability of these tablets, and the effects of consuming tablets with psychoactive substances.
The Ministry says law enforcement agencies will be keeping a keen lookout for these items and anyone who may be attempting to distribute or use them.
The possession and use of ecstasy and other MDMA drugs is illegal in Trinidad and Tobago.
