Blackman Wins 2022 Subway Maracas Open Water Classic

The annual Subway Open Water Classic was hosted by the Aquatics Sports Association of Trinidad and Tobago at Maracas beach on Sunday, with more than 182 athletes participating in the event.

Nikoli Blackman defended his 5,000m title, whilst Amelia Rajack placed first in the female open category over the same distance.

Trent Bethel was the first Special Olympian out of the water in the 5,000m event in a time of 1:28:42, and seasoned Trinity Masters swimmer Gordon Borde, the eldest competitor in the 80 – 84 masters category, completed the 1000m in 28:15. It was Borde’s 114th time competing in open water events.

Members of the Senior Men’s National Football Team were on hand to give support and assist with the distribution prizes.

The 3,000m event was called off due to bad weather.

All competitors received commemoration medals as participants.
