The Ministry of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries said a jaguar that had been captured by officials last week is being quarantined at the Emperor Valley Zoo.
The Ministry issued an update on Monday after claims that a ‘large cat’ had been spotted in South Trinidad.
Line Minister Kazim Hosein and Con-servator of Forests Denny Dipchinsingh visited a juvenile jaguar that had been captured and was being quarantined at the Zoo.
Hosein called on the public to stop illegal wildlife trafficking which could bring diseases and viral infections into the population.
He reiterated that the Ministry remains dedicated to ending the illegal wildlife trade and will continue to work with law enforcement agencies to tackle this issue.
Members of the public are encouraged to contact the Wildlife Section of the Forestry Division at 225-3827/3828/3829 and 225-3835 if they have information on illegal animals.
