The streets of the city of Port of Spain and environs were cleaned up in time for Ash Wednesday Mass – a promise kept and delivered by the CEPEP Company.
Via a media release, the CEPEP Company said approximately 25,120 bags of refuse were collected during clean-up exercises from Carnival Saturday to Ash Wednesday morning.
Thirty-five contractors and approximately 1,050 contractors’ workers were deployed around the Queen’s Park Savannah and downtown Port of Spain from Carnival Saturday. Areas covered included St. James, Mucurapo Road, St. Clair Avenue, Tragarete Road, Woodbrook, and around the Queen’s Park Savannah.
By 12am on Ash Wednesday, all areas were free of garbage.
Chief Executive Officer of the CEPEP Company, Keith Eddy, commended the hard work and dedication of all involved. He said this was a massive project, and it was accomplished in record time.
