Recognising the vital role of effective parenting in providing children with the necessary emotional, psychological, and social resources, the Ministry of Social Development and Family Services has announced the expansion of the Community-Based Parenting Workshop.
On Tuesday, the Ministry hosted an Award Ceremony to recognise participants from Diego Martin and Arima for their successful completion of the workshop.
According to Minister Donna Cox, the Ministry remains committed to the belief that strengthening families is central to addressing some of the most pressing challenges in society today.
“So, for us, these workshops are necessary to build a sustainable, prosperous future for Trinidad and Tobago. Strong families create strong communities, and strong communities build a resilient nation.”
Minister Cox also noted the unique challenges faced in parenting a child in the digital age. She believes these workshops will equip parents with practical strategies to navigate both the highs and lows of parenting with confidence and purpose.
“These workshops are the Ministry’s affirmation to reaching families where they are and providing them with the necessary tools and skills that are required. I encourage everyone here to tell someone they know about these workshops and encourage them to take advantage of this opportunity.”
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Social Development and Family Services, Ryan Ramcharan, highlighted that in today’s rapidly changing world, raising children requires knowledge, patience, and a strong support system.
“This is why this initiative is so important. It ensures that parents, guardians, and caregivers are equipped with the right tools and strategies to nurture, guide, and empower their children.”
The Ministry will expand the workshops to include 16 other communities, including San Juan, Arouca, Carapichaima, Upper and Lower Laventille, Pleasantville, Chaguanas, Enterprise, Penal, Siparia, Aranguez, El Socorro, Coalmine, Sangre Grande, Santa Cruz, Morvant, Maloney, and Carenage.
Workshops will continue in Belmont from April 2nd.
