Cricket: Barbados Wins Rising Stars Under-17 Tournament, CPL Moves To St. Kitts

Rain won the most appearances prize but the Barbados Under-17 cricket team have been crowned champions of the West Indies Rising Stars Boys’ Under-17 Regional Limited Overs Tournament.

This result, following the wash-out of the fifth and final round of matches on Sunday. The Bajans ended the white ball segment with 16.2 points, ahead of Trinidad and Tobago with 16 points. They were followed by Jamaica, Guyana, Windward Islands, and the Leeward Islands taking the last spot.

The teams will now turn their attention to the two-day tournament. This bowls off on Wednesday 23rd August at 10am Eastern Caribbean Time. The opening round will see Trinidad and Tobago hosting the Leewards at the Inshan Ali Park in Preysal. Windwards meet Barbados at the Powergen Ground in Penal, and Jamaica clash with Guyana at the National Cricket Centre in Couva.

And rain also took centre stage during the St. Lucia Leg of the Republic Bank CPL. From the six official matches, only the first two recorded results with the St. Lucia Kings currently atop the table with 4 points.

The Jamaica Tallawahs are second on three points with the remaining teams yet to play a full game. On Saturday, two matches ended in no results after having curtailed starts, but on Sunday, both matches were completely washed out with effects from then Tropical Wave, now Tropical Storm Franklin.

The attention now turns to Basse Terre in St. Kitts, where teams who have not gained any full points, will be aiming to capitalise on drier conditions. The Jamaica Tallawahs lock heads with the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots on Wednesday at 7pm. The Trinbago Knight Riders will have to stay prepared a bit longer as their next match is on Saturday 23rd August versus the St. Lucia Kings at 10am ECT.
