Crime Affecting 24/7 Service Stations

A warning today that 24-hour service stations may soon be a thing of the past.

The statement comes from the President Elect of the Owner Dealers Association, Reval Chattergoon, noting that the owners of these essential stations may have to resort to ‘self-imposed’ curfews, given the current spate of crime and criminal activity.

Most recently, a man was shot and killed at the Charlieville Service Station following an alleged robbery and in mid-June, a man was gunned down while at a popular Gas Station along Wrightson Road.

The Association said service stations are quickly becoming a target for criminal elements, despite 80% of sales derived from cashless transactions.

It added that based on information received from its members, sales have fallen as much as 60% as self-imposed curfews by customers are becoming more evident.

Mr. Chattergoon is hoping that with the installation of the new Minister in the Ministry of National Security over one month ago that positive results are imminent in achieving their vision to be at the pinnacle of public safety.
