Dr. Rai Ragbir Resigns From The UNC

Another resignation from the United National Congress. This time, from former Member of Parliament for Cumuto/Manzanilla, Dr. Rai Ragbir.

In a media release dated March 19th, Dr. Ragbir indicated his resignation from the UNC is with immediate effect.

He said it was an honour to serve the party, but as he previously stated, the UNC no longer upholds the values it once represented. He went on to describe the UNC as a party influenced by individuals whose conduct is deeply troubling.

Dr. Ragbir said now that the General Election has been called and his term as MP has ended, he sees no reason to remain affiliated with a party that has lost its moral compass.

He pledged his commitment to the people of Trinidad and Tobago, saying he will continue to serve in whatever capacity he can. Dr. Ragbir indicated in February that he would not seek re-election under the UNC.

In June 2024, Dr. Ragbir broke ranks with the Opposition and voted with the Government on the Whistleblower Protection Bill.
