The students of the Icacos Government Primary School were served a totally local meal on Wednesday, where the only foreign ingredient was salt.
President of the 4H Leaders Council of Trinidad and Tobago, Natasha Lee, said this was done to commemorate “Eat Local Day.”
She said the day has been celebrated in this country since 2012. For their 2023 celebrations, they decided to bring their celebrations to Icacos.
On Eat Local Day, the children are urged to show respect for the sacrifices of our local food producers. The menu consisted of items like ginger and honey chicken, callaloo, provision oil down, buttered sweet potato, and cucumber and pineapple chow.
The students also had the opportunity to participate in the meal preparation.
