Nine of the fourteen recounts in Monday’s Local Government Elections have been completed, while one has been called off.

In an update on Wednesday evening, The Elections and Boundaries Commission said the UNC’s Candidate for the electoral district of Bagatelle/Blue Basin, Nalini Goindoo called off her request, in which the PNM’s candidate won by a margin of 220 votes.

The six additional recounts completed were Arima West/O’ Meara, Auzonville/Tunapuna, Blanchisseuse/Santa Rosa, Five Rivers, Sangre Grande Northeast and San Juan East.

There was little to no change in the recount, except for Sangre Grande North where the PNM’s Alicia Thomas lost four votes, and the UNC’s Nassar Hosein lost 7 votes.

The EBC added that in the Electoral District of Lengua/Indian Walk, a count of the ballot boxes has revealed a tie, with both PNM and UNC candidates securing 1,428 votes each – a loss of 2 votes for the PNM’s candidate and a gain of three votes for the UNC’s candidate. The vote count for the PEP’s candidate remained the same at 87 votes. It said the recount of the poll card boxes in this electoral district is still ongoing.
