The Minister of Education Dr. Nyan Gadsby Dolly has addressed an issue concerning the 2023 graduation ceremony of Trinity College, Moka.
Some of the students were not allowed to receive their graduation certificates at the ceremony and this the Minister labelled as ‘unfortunate and regrettable”.
She said regardless of where blame may lie, a group of young men, were negatively affected on a day which would have been anticipated and planned as a highlight of their Secondary School experience……
Dr. Gadsby Dolly said however, that the required dress-code was known to both the students and parents – which means that they were aware of the breach they made….. Rules, she said, are a very necessary part of society and divergence from this should be regulated by discussion and not confrontation…..
Nevertheless, she questioned whether enforcing the rules at such a solemn forum was valid.
In light of this, the Minister said that the time has come for discussion on the standardization of the rules which surrounds school hairstyles. She says that after discussion with stakeholders, decisions will be taken, for implementation in the upcoming Academic Year.
