Director of the Ageing Division, Dr. Hyacinth Blake, says abuse of the elderly is growing in Trinidad and Tobago.
World Elder Abuse Awareness Day will be commemorated on Wednesday, and Dr. Blake shared startling statistics about financial abuse of this age group.
Dr. Blake says while the number of reports were down during the COVID-19 lockdown periods, the numbers are again increasing. She adds this is a cause for concern and shared some of the types of financial fraud they are seeing locally.
The Division will host a webinar on estate planning and financial literacy on Wednesday from 8:30am until noon.
