Master Artist Dr LeRoy Clarke’s life and work were celebrated on Thursday at Arnim’s Art Galleria, in recognition of what would have been his 86th birthday, with an exhibition of pieces from his last collection “Seasons Vicissitudes.”
The exhibition titled, “De Legacy, Looking Back, Looking In,” showcased Clarke’s unique style and vision with a wide range of pieces defined by explosive colour and movement.
Born in Belmont, Clarke rose to international recognition as a prolific visual artist and icon of contemporary black culture. He was the first person to receive the honour of Master Artist by the National Museum and Art Gallery in 1998.
The celebration exhibition at Arnim’s is aimed at keeping the memory of Master Dr LeRoy Clarke alive as an artist, author and poet whose work and influence left an indelible mark on Trinidad and Tobago culture.
