Contract employment in the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service increased from $54.1 million in 2018 to $88.8 million in 2021. This represented an increase of $34.7 million over the period 2018-2021.
These figures came from Finance Minister, Colm Imbert, in response to some errors in one daily newspaper.
The Minister notes that in 2016, contract employment was $61.6 million, down from $67.2 million in 2015.
The clarification from Mr. Imbert comes after two articles in a local newspaper which he says stated erroneous figures.
He says the article stated that contract employment rose by 3400% from $1.6 million in 2016 to $57.3 million in 2017.
However, Mr Imbert says that 2016 figure was actually $61.6 million and not $1.6M.
The Minister says while the error may have been unintentional, it is simply not correct.
