Fire Prevention Week 2022

Between the period 2019 and 2021, 80% of all structural fires were residential fires. This equated to an average of two house fires per day and an estimated loss of $177 million.

As such, the Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service is on a mission to prevent loss of life and valuables through its Fire Prevention Week which began on Sunday.

At a prayer service to commemorate 100 years of fire prevention, Acting Chief Fire Officer Andy Hutchinson reminded those gathered of the need to observe Fire Prevention Week.

Acting Assistant Chief Fire Officer of the Tobago Region, Peter Griffith, who delivered the prayer service, said he has lived his dream after being in the Fire Service for 41 years.

This year’s international fire prevention theme is “Fire won’t wait; Plan your escape.”
