Five Persons Missing At Sea

The search continues for five of seven crew members who were onboard a cargo vessel from St. Vincent and the Grenadines when it overturned in waters just off the Bocas.

According to a media release from the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard (TTCG) on Saturday April 2nd, at approximately 3:40pm, they received a report of an overturned vessel with seven persons on board in the position of five Nautical Miles North of Monos Island.

The TTCG says the MV Fair chance which is from St. Vincent and the Grenadines encountered rough north coast seas and subsequently overturned due to a shift of the cargo on board.

Two of the seven persons on board were rescued by a passing vessel and were handed over to the TTCG and taken to Staubles Bay where they were medically examined.

According to reports two of the crew members are Vincentians, who currently work in Trinidad for a local contractor. One of them, identified as Eric Calliste, is said to be among the five persons who are still missing.
