Former CIC Principal Clears The Air On Bullying Incident

Former principal at St Mary’s College, Roman Catholic priest Fr Anthony deVerteuil, has sought to clear the air on claims surrounding a bullying incident involving Prime Minister Stuart Young some 33 years ago.

Fr deVerteuil told the congregation during his homily at Living Water Community Chapel, in Port of Spain on Saturday, of a great joy he experienced when he was the Principal of St. Mary’s College 33 years ago. Referencing the “joy of forgiving,” the priest stated that after investigating the incident, where one boy clubbed another in the head, the student was not suspended, expelled or stopped from doing his exams.

Fr deVerteuil indicated that he did not punish the student in any way and placed no record of the incident on the files and was happy to acknowledge him as a St. Mary’s College boy in good standing. He said now that the incident has been raised in the interest of politics, he once more has the happiness of forgiveness as a falsified version of events has made its way into the public domain.
