Former Trinidad and Tobago national footballer Leroy De Leon is currently in critical condition after suffering two strokes over the past week.
The 76 year old, widely regarded as one of the nation’s football icons, is now hospitalised at the San Fernando General Hospital.
De Leon, a legend in Trinidad and Tobago’s football history, suffered his first stroke over the weekend while staying at his sister’s home in Mahaica, Point Fortin. He was rushed to the Point Fortin Hospital, where he received treatment and was discharged after a few days.
However, shortly after being moved to a home for the elderly in Cap-de-Ville, Point Fortin, De Leon suffered a second stroke. He was rushed back to the Point Fortin Hospital and later transferred to the San Fernando General Hospital, where he remains in an unresponsive condition.
De Leon is known for his contributions to Trinidad and Tobago football in the 1960s and 70s. His skill and dedication earned him recognition both locally and internationally.
The Point Fortin to San Fernando Highway is named after De Leon and another former national footballer, Warren Archibald . The highway is known as the Archibald De Leon Highway.
