Former Petrotrin Workers Get Land

One hundred and eighty former eligible employees of Petrotrin received residential lots on State lands through the third random draw by the Land Settlement Agency (LSA) under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.

Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Camille Robinson-Regis, noted that when the Government took the decision to stop refining oil and restructure Petrotrin, it was mindful of the dislocation that would result.

She said the Government was committed to ensuring that the employees be provided with as soft a landing as possible and took the decision to provide residential or agricultural lots to the former Petrotrin workers.

The lands being distributed are located in Petit Morne in Ste. Madeleine, Harmony Hall in Gasparillo, Springle Street in Point Fortin, and Wellington Road, Debe.

Minister Robinson-Regis said she is confident that the land being allocated will make a difference in not only the lives of the former Petrotrin workers but also the lives of their children and future generations to come.

The LSA has provided infrastructure and subdivided the lots and recipients will have the opportunity to utilise the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development’s Aided Self Help approach to construct their homes.
