Tobago has hit 56% of its COVID-19 vaccination target with more than 20,000 people taking at least their first shot, while almost 45% of the targeted 36,000 people on the island are fully vaccinated.
The Division of Health, Wellness and Family Development on Friday said it has been an uphill battle in Tobago to get people, parents, and their children to step up for the COVID-19 vaccine.
Health Secretary Tracy Davidson-Celestine said it’s slow and intense work getting to ‘yes’ with people who are opposed to vaccination, hesitant, or are waiting.
The Division confirmed that so far, all the deaths in Tobago, except for one partially vaccinated person, have been people who were unvaccinated.
To date in Tobago, 81 people have died due to COVID-19 and a total of 2,582 have tested Positive. There are currently 416 Active COVID-19 cases on the island.
