Global T&T Launched To Drive Trade And Foreign Investment

Trinidad and Tobago is pursuing foreign direct investment in new and emerging markets as well as improving this country’s visibility in the global market by streamlining its trade and investment thrust.

This, from Minister of Trade and Industry Paula Gopee-Scoon as she launched Global Trinidad and Tobago on Tuesday.

She said there will now be clearer lines of accountability, swifter decision-making, and more efficient service delivery with the launch of the Ministry’s newest trade and investment agency.

“This agency will directly contribute to increasing our national GDP, creating foreign exchange, creating jobs, and strengthening our economic resilience. My expectation is that it will be a powerful catalyst for economic transformation.”

The Minister indicated that the structure of the agency will remove duplication and allow for a more integrated approach to how Trinidad and Tobago is promoted as a destination for trade and investment.

“We are looking to grow our trade within North America, Latin America, the UK, and Europe, Asia, and Africa. Global Trinidad and Tobago is poised to become a game changer in our trade outlook by actively promoting investment, expanding export capacity and working collaboratively with the private sector.”

The new agency will be chaired by Franka Costelloe, a former head of the Trinidad and Tobago Manufacturers’ Association, with Sekou Alleyne, former head of InvesTT, as its Chief Executive Officer.
