Minister of Social Development and Family Services, Senator Donna Cox, says this country continues to make strides to minimise and “roll back poverty.”
In commemoration of the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, she noted that her Ministry continues to reduce poverty through several Grants available for the most vulnerable. This is why she said Government opted not to remove any of the Social Assistance Grants accessible to the population during the recent budget. She also pointed to two specific moves by Government to reduce the inequality gap. Minister Cox added that other steps are also being made to transform the lives of the less fortunate.
The Ministry’s Social Investigations Division is undertaking a week of activities at its Head Office in Port of Spain, aimed at promoting awareness of poverty related issues in the fight against poverty.
