Government’s Position On TCL

With the recent announcement by Trinidad Cement Limited of the impending increase in the price of locally manufactured cement, Minister of Trade and Industry, Paula Gopee-Scoon, addressed the matter during Wednesday’s sitting of the Senate.

She revealed that a decision was made by the Cabinet for her Ministry to approach the Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED) to seek a suspension of other hydraulic cement from 50% to 20% from January 2022.

The Minister noted that Government recognises the importance of keeping the price of cement as low as possible as it can have a ripple effect beyond the construction industry.

The Minister was responding to an Urgent Question brought to the Senate by Opposition Senator Wade Mark.
