Grande Factory Fire

A community bucket brigade, fire tender and a private water truck — all in a bid to save a burning factory and residence of 2 persons in Sangre Grande this afternoon.

According to eyewitness reports, the fire started on the compound near the Xtra Foods Sangre Branch around 1pm. Residents in the area attempted to keep the blaze at bay with hoses and buckets while waiting on the fire service response. We’re told there was a moment of extreme anxiety while some persons attempted to remove gas tanks which were stored adjacent to the fire. Fire officers were able to contain and eventually extinguish the fire, but not before the structure on the compound was completely gutted and several cars burnt. The fire has left 2 people homeless, the man and woman are said to have lost everything in the blaze.
Those who frequent the area say it was not uncommon to see lit fires on the compound and that several complaints were made prior to Sunday’s blaze.
