Haiti Receives $2.5 Million Education Grant

A UN-backed global fund will provide $2.5 million to ensure that Haitian children affected by gang violence can continue their education in safety.

In recent years, Haiti has experienced unparalleled gang violence. The armed groups frequently target schools, and are accused of forced recruitment of children, with estimates that 30% to 50% of their members could be children.

The Fund, which supports education in emergencies, aims to reach nearly 75,000 children and adolescents in the hardest-hit communities.

UNICEF will deliver the Grant in collaboration with the UN World Food Programme and other local and international partners.

The funding will support back-to-school incentives, school feeding programmes, early childhood education, disability inclusion, mental health and psychosocial support, cash transfers to families in need, and other support to enable children’s access to safe learning environments.
