A deeply regrettable incident. This is how Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh has described a hysterectomy procedure gone wrong at an institution under the North West Regional Health Authority (NWRHA) in June 2019.
The affected individual, Katherine Akum Lum, recently shared her story, saying lye was used instead of distilled water after her hysterectomy, in which she suffered extensive damage.
The woman is being transported via an air ambulance to Virginia on Saturday for corrective surgery.
Minister Deyalsingh assured that the Ministry id doing everything possible to support her in her recovery.
