Highway Widening To Be Completed Before Year’s End

Minister in the Ministry of Works Richie Sookhai says the widening of the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway between Chase Village and Chaguanas should be completed before the end of this year. This assurance came when he attended a children’s treat at the Postman Road Recreation Ground, Enterprise, Chaguanas, on Saturday.

Mr. Sookhai, who is also the PNM’s candidate for Chaguanas East, revealed that officials at the Programme for the Upgrade of Road Efficiency or PURE are assuring that there’ll be no more delays in completing the roadway. The main reason he said for the delays was inclement weather.

The end goal of the work is to add a third lane on both sides of the highway, from the vicinity of Bhagwansingh’s Hardware in Chaguanas in the North to the Chase Village overpass in the South. The work which was earmarked to total $65 million dollars is the first phase of the highway’s widening from Chaguanas to San Fernando. Road works began in January this year and was expected to be completed by August.
