Improved Access For San Souci Community

Member of Parliament for Toco/Sangre Grande, Roger Monroe has appealed to residents of Hilltop Big Bay in San Souci to be the ‘watchmen and women’ for their community, following the completion of critical infrastructural works in the community.

A happy moment for the residents of the small community of Hilltop Big Bay in San Souci, as access to their houses just got much easier for them. It comes after the National Commission For Self Help Limited officially handed over the development project, which included critical infrastructural works to improve accessibility to the community.

Member of Parliament for Toco/Sangre Grande, Roger Monroe urged residents to ensure the work is not tampered with.

“Do not allow anyone to destroy it or damage it, or to even take you back 40 years from where you are today. Today’s handing over ceremony, as I mentioned earlier on marks the completion of crucial works valued at an estimated $960,000”

Interim Chief Executive Officer of the National Commission for Self Help Ltd, Akino Greene, lauded the project, which he said not only improves connectivity in the area, but the lives of those in the community.

“I’m really honoured to stand before you today as we celebrate the successful completion of a project that will have a lasting positive impact on the infrastructure and daily lives of approximately 200 residents of this community. This project represents a significant step forward in improving connectivity on safety in this area”

MP Monroe also gave an overview of what the project entailed.

“Your construction of a concreted road, box drain and a crossing and a catch pit. Those are the features of what we are here today to discuss, to open to make available to all. Also keep in mind accessibility after how many years. You all would know, I’m seeing Mr. John here and he would know how many years, no access to a proper roadway. Ambulance can’t come up, groceries need to be tote all the way from down the hill.”

And he said a long overdue project is also on the cards for the area soon.

“We are very close to seeing the start of construction of our Community centre, so the Ministry of Sports and Community Development is not only working for San Souci and the northeastern parts through Self Help, but through all the different entities that falls under the Ministry of Sports and Community Development”
